Blue Suede Shoes: Part Two - Date: Sat, Jul 3, 2010|
 
The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre, Ferrum, VA, on Saturday, July 3, 2010, to see: "Part Two: Blue Suede Shoes."  This musical revue of the 50's features ducktails, poodle skirts and peg pants. Set two years later than Blue Suede Shoes, this new show will let you see what Patty, Deborah, Marilyn and all the rest have been doing. Bus Trip to Cass Railroad  - Date: Mon, Jul 5, 2010
 
The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to the Cass Railroad, Cass, WV, on Monday, July 5, 2010.   The excursion which offers scenic mountain vistas and two switchbacks, includes an 8 mile, 2 hour round-trip to Whitaker Station.   Once a lumbering community, Cass retains the history of its greatness at the beginning of the 20th century. The Cass Country Store is in the West Virginia Pulp and Paper General Store, purported to have been the largest company store in the world.    The Historic Museum houses a collection of photographs and relics pertaining to the logging industry, including one of the largest handsaws in the world. The Cass Showcase is a historic diorama depicting the Cass Railroad in its lumbering days and includes a reproduction of the town during the lumber boom at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism, is sponsoring a bus trip to see the play "First Baptist of Ivy Gap" at the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre, Ferrum, VA, on Saturday, July 17, 2010.  In the play, First Baptist of Ivy Gap, six women come together in their small town Tennessee church to share lives, loves and laughter in WWII. Twenty five years later they reunite to share secrets that will keep you in stitches from beginning to end.  Prior to the play, the group will enjoy a buffet dinner.

Bus Trip to Monticello and Mitchie Tavern  Date: Sat, Jul 24, 2010

The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to Monticello and Mitchie Tavern, Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday, July 24, 2010.  The group will visit Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of U.S., author of the Declaration of Independence and Statue for Religious Freedom. He also founded University of Virginia. Monticello sets on a mountain and overlooks Charlottesville. The tour will include Jefferson's private suite of rooms, his gardens, orchards and vineyards. The home is an architectural masterpiece.  The group will have lunch at Mitchie Tavern, one of the oldest homesteads in Virginia. Your delicious meal will be served by servers in period attire. After lunch, a tour of the original Tavern features living history where guests participate in 18th century activities including a lively Virginia dance. Catawba Queen Riverboat & NC Trains - Date: Sat, Jul 31, 2010
 
The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to ride the Catawba Queen Riverboat, Mooresville, NC, and to the North Carolina Museum of Transportation, Spencer, NC, on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
The group will have a luncheon cruise aboard Lake Norman's Catawba Queen Riverboat, Mooresville, NC. The Catawba Queen will transport you back in time to those nostalgic days when paddlewheelers cruised America's rivers. The sightseeing cruise takes you by many of the homes of Nascar legends.  The group will then visit the North Carolina Transportation Museum which is located on the former site of Southern Railway's steam locomotive repair facility in Spencer. The museum features the people and machines that moved North Carolina. There is Barber Junction, built in 1898. The 37-stall Robert Julian Roundhouse, was built in 1924 and is one of the few roundhouses remaining in the country. Explore exhibits of antique locomotives, automobiles, planes and more. People can also ride the historic passenger train that circles the 57 acre complex. The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to Grandfather Mountain, NC, on Friday, August 6, 2010.  In celebration of the Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th anniversary, the group will ride on the Glen Cove Viaduct section of the parkway on their way to Grandfather Mountain.  Grandfather Mountain, at 5,964 feet, is the highest mountain in the Blue Ridge range and is the top scenic attraction in the Carolina's. Virginia Creeper Trail Trip & Bicycle Ride - Date: Sat, Aug 7, 2010

 The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a trip to the Virginia Creeper Trail, Damascus, VA, on Saturday, August 7, 2010.  The group will travel by van and shuttle to White Top Mountain. They will then board their rental bikes and begin 17 mile journey, downhill, into Damascus, VA. The Carter Family Fold - Date: Sat, Aug 21, 2010

The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to The Carter Family Fold, Hiltons, VA, on Saturday, August 21, 2010.  The Carter Fold presents old time country and folk music. It also honors the memory of the first family of country music, the legendary Carter Family (A.P., Carter, Sara Carter and Maybelle Carter), whose first recordings (in 1927) are credited with giving birth to the commercial country music industry. The Carter Family Memorial Center was founded by Janette Carter, daughter of A.P. and Sara, who with Sara's cousin, Maybelle, comprised the original Carter Family.  Prior to attending the Carter Fold, the group will also visit the Mountain Music Museum in Bristol. The Mountain Music Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacies of the many great men and women who helped create and promote the wonderful music that we all hold so dear. The Botetourt County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a bus trip to the Virginia State Capitol and Tangier Island on Saturday/Sunday, August 28-29. 2010.   DAY 1: The group will travel to the state capitol, Richmond, VA, and have a guided tour of the renovated state capitol building. The group will visit Monument Avenue and visit Virginia's five-star historic Jefferson Hotel. During the evening, the people can relax in their room or enjoy shopping at Short Pump Towne Centre.
 DAY 2: The group will travel to Reidsville, VA, for a relaxing 1.5 hour narrated cruise on the scenic Chesapeake Bay to remote Tangier Island. Tangier is a largely unspoiled fishing village with it's quaint narrow streets. Although modernization has come to the Island, it has not lost it's charm. The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a train ride/bus trip to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, September 25, 2010.  The group will travel from Roanoke to Lynchburg by motorcoach. In Lynchburg, they will board the Amtrak train for the scenic train ride. The train will go through Charlottesville, Culpepper, Manassas, Alexandria, several small towns, communities and farms on it's journey. The train will cross the Potomac River and go by several landmarks on it's way into our nations capitol. The group will arrive at Union Station. They can have lunch in the food court and shop. Next door to the train station is the National Museum of the Postal Service.
